Beam Angle

The beam angle is how wide the beam is spread. If you have a very narrow beam angle your light will be projected like a handheld torch whereas if you have a wide beam angle it will be much softer and spread like a traditional bulb. Wide beam angle are best for living areas such as living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms where you are looking for a softer light and narrow beam angles for targeting specific areas or for decoration.

Lumens

Since LED light bulbs are designed to use less energy than halogen spots, wattage is not a reliable way to gauge how bright the bulb is. Brightness is measured in Lumens.

With LED spotlights there is more to consider than just a direct Lumen comparison with the halogen equivalent. The superior light quality given off by LEDs and much lower bulb degradation rate over time must also be taken into account. This is why the stated Lumen output for an LED spotlight is often less than that quoted for a halogen spot bulb it replaces.

Energy Used

The wattage is the value given to the energy consumed by the light bulb itself. So, a 50-watt halogen spotlight bulb will use 50 watts of power. If you have 6 x 50-watt halogen spots in your kitchen then you will be using 300 watts of power. If you were using replacement LED lights at 4 watts each you would be using 24 watts of power, resulting in huge energy savings.

Size (60x107mm)

The size determines the diameter and the length of the bulb. In most cases the bulbs are a retro-fit, which means they are a direct replacement for their halogen equivalent.

Input Power

This is a measurement of the volts required to operate the bulb. The standard for the UK is 240 volts. This means that you can plug these directly into existing fittings without changing any of the electrics.

Replacement for

This details what this LED bulb is a replacement for in terms of standard halogen bulb wattage. This allows you to easily make a comparison when replacing your existing halogen bulb, to ensure you get a similar light quality and brightness from your new LED bulb

Wattage

The wattage is the value given to the amount of power consumed by the light bulb itself.

Voltage

This is a measurement of the volts required to operate the bulb. The standard for the UK is 240 volts. This means that you can plug these directly into existing fittings without changing any of the electrics.

Average Lifespan

Manufacturers will give lifetime claims in multiples of 1000 hours. One thousand hours is equivalent to about 6-months use when the bulb is on for 4 hours per day. A traditional halogen spotlight bulb is expected to last about one year (2000 hours) where as an LED will last between 30,000 and 50,000 hours - that’s between 15 and 25 years! Switching to LEDs means you may never have to change your light bulbs again.

Dimmable

Dimmable LED bulbs are only compatible with a dedicated "Trailing Edge" dimmer switch that reduces the current flow. Your bulbs will not work effectively if used with the conventional "Leading Edge" dimmer switches that operate with a higher current flow.

When ordering dimmable LEDs please ensure you have an LED-compatible Dimmer Switch.

Bulb Base

This is the fitting of the bulb, described by a letter/number code. You can find out what your fitting is by looking on the base of the bulb you are replacing or the packaging of your existing bulb.

Colour

Warm white is a softer more yellow light that is closer to the light given off by a traditional halogen spotlight. Therefore, warm white is better suited for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.

Cool white is a much brighter white that is best suited for kitchens, utility areas and bathrooms.

Excellent bulb. I do like the instant light, unlike the energy saving bulbs which take too long to warm up.
15 / 05 / 2013

5/5

I have replaced all the standard energy saving (CFL) bulbs in the house with this type as they are instantly on and bright. No waiting for the bulb to warm up anymore.\nThe different warmth ratings work really well allowing defined moods to be set in each room.

I have changed all my lighting to LED for economy and longevity. I recommend it to all my friends and family

Great
12 / 05 / 2013

5/5

What can I say - it's just a light bulb, after all! But it does what it's meant to and provides a good, warm white light excellent for ceiling / room lighting in places where a moderately strong light is necessary.

Good for use in corridors and small spaces.

5/5

Well made and a perfect replacement to a standard bulb. I have it in my hallway and it is ideal. I was slightly concerned that it would not be bright enough, but it is fine.

4/5

replacement for conventional bulbs low electricity usage but a little dimmer tha would be ideal for 60w replacement .
06 / 05 / 2013

3/5

As a 11 watt CFC replacement. Light output is disappointing compared to predicted lumens and 11 watt CFC, but otherwise fine.\nIn general the distance between the retaining lugs of the B22 and electrical contacts seem larger than average, and will not fit all of my fittings as there is insufficient compression. Maybe I should change the fitting, however I have never had any problems with fitting incandescent or CFC bulbs.\n
04 / 05 / 2013

It works as expected for anyone who are trying to replace the equivalent bulbs.

4/5

New to LED bulbs but they don't seem as bright as I thought they would be, put one on the landing as it's on most of the night. It lights up quickly but there is a definate flicker to it, which was unexpected.

5/5

good light very low wattage
17 / 04 / 2013

5/5

I am using the bulbs in my ceiling pendants in my lounge and bedroom, and in my standard lamp in the lounge, which is on a timer and is on even when I am away from home. Extremely pleased with my purhase and would recommend the bulbs and yourselves to everyone

I have used this in my teenage son's bedroom, as he always has the light on! Hopefully it will save us some money.
15 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Great, much better than the old low engergy bulbs
14 / 04 / 2013

4/5

good light output and satisfactory appearance
13 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Good replacement for a 40-60 watt standard bulb. Warm white is nicer than cool for sitting rooms, etc. Using these in table lamps, for which it seems ideal. \nIt'll take a while to test its claimed longevity (I hope!)
13 / 04 / 2013

4/5

Good replacement for a 40-60 watt standard bulb. Cool white is less agreeable than warm for sitting rooms, etc., and I haven't decided where to use this CW bulb yet. (The docked star is purely due to not liking CW so much - no reflection on quality of product). \nIt'll take a while to test its claimed longevity (I hope!)
13 / 04 / 2013

4/5

Should be a good cost saving, but ideally would like a little more light. \nSo will order the 7 watt version next time, and transfer these elsewhere. (I replaced an 11 watt low energy bulb)
12 / 04 / 2013

5/5

product is fine.
12 / 04 / 2013

11 / 04 / 2013

10 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Bulbs replaced in all bedrooms working ok. Have already recommended company to friends.
10 / 04 / 2013

5/5

I have replaced all my old standard bulbs with the mercury filled ones, but this is bad for the environment, so with the promise of a better lighting arrangement, and lower bills, purchased these new LED bulbs.
10 / 04 / 2013

4/5

The warm light doesn't seem to be as bright as a 60watt bulb in a standard lamp. Probably due to most of useable light is going upwards into shade and not downwards like a standard bulb has a wider footprint ie downwards and upwards. Perhaps you could produce a rounder bulb rather than the half round product you have. A thin neck to the bulb more pear shaped would be good.
10 / 04 / 2013

3/5

Very dim light produced
10 / 04 / 2013

5/5

I think this is a excellent product and would recommend it looks good and will save you money
08 / 04 / 2013

Bit "whiter" than I was hoping for, but good light output.

4/5

neat and good light for a bedroom
08 / 04 / 2013

4/5

In hallway with PIR system. The bulb seems to stay on for a long time so don't know if it should be used with a PIR system
07 / 04 / 2013

4/5

Works fine but most light shines out of the top of the bulb, fine for pendant lights but not for standard (upright) lights. They give a good light though.
07 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Excellent quality and I would recommend to any one.
06 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Use the product for our outside lights,\nImmediate light when switched on compared to a slow build up of our previous energy saving bulbs.\n
06 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Used in the kitchen in ceiling fitments. Brilliant white light.
06 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Used in lights in living areas. Even though they are labelled warm white, it is a whiter light than CFL.

Quality product
01 / 04 / 2013

4/5

Wonderfully bright, I feel very good with low-watt instant brightness, perhaps better than 60w incandescant. I bought the 'warm' version but it isn't as warm as I expected. The light is quite directional so works well as a downlighter.
01 / 04 / 2013

5/5

Desk lamp - works well but be aware that the bulb is heavier than the conventional so an Anglepoise may need adjustment
31 / 03 / 2013

4/5

I use this bulb in my spare bedroom/computer room.\nI would definitely recommend the product to anyone.\nI have given this 4 stars as the bulb came away from the fitment, but this was probably a "one-off".
31 / 03 / 2013

5/5

Provides the light required, electrity usage dropped. Too early to comment on product it still has 20 years to run before its expected failure!
30 / 03 / 2013

3/5

As expected.\nInteresting issue with LED GS shaped bulbs is that light distribution is completely different to the incandescent version. Needs a re-think about some lighting fittings.

5/5

This is used on our landing. Illuminates the stairs well.
26 / 03 / 2013

5/5

Amazing to think of the savings in electricity, 10 of these equivalent to one old 50 watt bulb.
26 / 03 / 2013

5/5

Very good quality and construction. Much brighter, despite using lower wattage, than many alternatives, e.g. IKEA range. Currently using them mainly in communal areas in 2 blocks of flats but would recommend them to anyone looking to use them within their own property. The cool white variety gives a very clear, close to daylight, brightness.
26 / 03 / 2013

I've now replaced all of my 'energy saving' bulbs with LED bulbs. The light is instant, so no more groping about in half light as the bulb warms up. Plus they use even less electricity than the 'energy saving' ones - recommended.

Despite the advertising text, these bulbs don't come on instantly, there is a slight, but noticable, delay before full output is achieved. I feel the description should make this clear.

I have changed all lamps in my home for led ones. The B22 standard shape bulb were the only ones remaining. They were slightly larger in size than what I expected however do the job intended for. Not sure if size specification are on the web page, didn't check but if not maybe would be a good idea to put it on there as they are slightly larger than a standard size bulb and may not fit in fancy pendant drops.

01 / 02 / 2013

4/5

Good for hanging bulb replacement. Not ideal for replacing upward pointing bulbs.
31 / 01 / 2013

3/5

Insofar as one of these bulbs failed after only a few hundred hours running time, the jury is still out on the quality of some of its internal components.\n\nIf it is of any help, the bulb in question was used in a toilet where it is switched on and off quite frequently.\n\nIt failed when it was switched on when it began to flash and make loud noises before going out. \n\nSubsequent inspection showed that the glass of the lamp had gone cloudy, suggesting that some component in the built in power supply had overheated and burnt out.\n\nI should add that that the bulb was in a large well ventilated fitting open top and bottom and the temperature of the room was typically 20 degrees or lower.

EXCELLENT REPLACEMENT BULB
30 / 01 / 2013

As a replacemnt for older type energy efficient 'bulb'. Good strong light. Perhaps I need to think about a different design of table/standard lamp to give maximum illumination.
30 / 01 / 2013

5/5

I am useing these lights in the hall and landing as we had energy light bulbs originally, which took a long time to light up properly and were dangerous for going up stairs. These LED lights are brilliant very bright on the stairs.
