Frequently asked questions
Which commercial lighting type should I start with?
High bays are commonly used in high-ceiling spaces, panels in suitable office ceiling systems and battens in many utility or work areas. Start with the room layout, task and mounting position, then check the individual fitting's specification.
Can I replace a commercial fitting by matching wattage?
Wattage alone is not enough. Compare lumen output, light distribution, mounting height, colour temperature and dimensions. Where lighting levels matter, a lighting calculation using the selected fitting's photometric data gives a more useful assessment.
What should I check for sensors and dimming?
Check the fitting's driver and supported control method, plus whether sensors are built in, optional or supplied separately. Controls such as on/off sensors and different dimming systems are not automatically interchangeable.
Are LED tubes compatible with existing fluorescent fittings?
Compatibility depends on the tube and the existing control gear and wiring. Check the manufacturer's instructions before purchase. Some replacements require changes to the fitting, which should be assessed and carried out by a qualified electrician.
Does a standard LED fitting provide emergency lighting?
No. An emergency version or a suitable specified emergency system is required. Check the exact product variant and its operating details, and have the emergency-lighting design and installation requirements assessed for the premises.
