Energy Rating

EU energy labels have become a common sight on light bulb packaging - they're found on all of our LED Bulbs and other products, and are designed to help customers see how energy efficient a model is before you buy.

A is the most efficient, and G is the least efficient, based on the products energy consumption.

Beam Angle

The beam angle is how wide the beam is spread. If you have a very narrow beam angle your light will be projected like a handheld torch whereas if you have a wide beam angle it will be much softer and spread like a traditional bulb. Wide beam angle are best for living areas such as living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms where you are looking for a softer light and narrow beam angles for targeting specific areas or for decoration.

Lumens

Since LED light bulbs are designed to use less energy than halogen spots, wattage is not a reliable way to gauge how bright the bulb is. Brightness is measured in Lumens.

With LED spotlights there is more to consider than just a direct Lumen comparison with the halogen equivalent. The superior light quality given off by LEDs and much lower bulb degradation rate over time must also be taken into account. This is why the stated Lumen output for an LED spotlight is often less than that quoted for a halogen spot bulb it replaces.

Energy Used

The wattage is the value given to the energy consumed by the light bulb itself. So, a 50-watt halogen spotlight bulb will use 50 watts of power. If you have 6 x 50-watt halogen spots in your kitchen then you will be using 300 watts of power. If you were using replacement LED lights at 4 watts each you would be using 24 watts of power, resulting in huge energy savings.

Size (50x56mm)

The size determines the diameter and the length of the bulb. In most cases the bulbs are a retro-fit, which means they are a direct replacement for their halogen equivalent.

Input Power

This is a measurement of the volts required to operate the bulb. The standard for the UK is 240 volts. This means that you can plug these directly into existing fittings without changing any of the electrics.

Replacement for

This details what this LED bulb is a replacement for in terms of standard halogen bulb wattage. This allows you to easily make a comparison when replacing your existing halogen bulb, to ensure you get a similar light quality and brightness from your new LED bulb

Wattage

The wattage is the value given to the amount of power consumed by the light bulb itself.

Voltage

This is a measurement of the volts required to operate the bulb. The standard for the UK is 240 volts. This means that you can plug these directly into existing fittings without changing any of the electrics.

Average Lifespan

Manufacturers will give lifetime claims in multiples of 1000 hours. One thousand hours is equivalent to about 6-months use when the bulb is on for 4 hours per day. A traditional halogen spotlight bulb is expected to last about one year (2000 hours) where as an LED will last between 30,000 and 50,000 hours - that’s between 15 and 25 years! Switching to LEDs means you may never have to change your light bulbs again.

Dimmable

Dimmable LED bulbs are only compatible with a dedicated "Trailing Edge" dimmer switch that reduces the current flow. Your bulbs will not work effectively if used with the conventional "Leading Edge" dimmer switches that operate with a higher current flow.

When ordering dimmable LEDs please ensure you have an LED-compatible Dimmer Switch.

Bulb Base

This is the fitting of the bulb, described by a letter/number code. You can find out what your fitting is by looking on the base of the bulb you are replacing or the packaging of your existing bulb.

Colour

Warm white is a softer more yellow light that is closer to the light given off by a traditional halogen spotlight. Therefore, warm white is better suited for living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms.

Cool white is a much brighter white that is best suited for kitchens, utility areas and bathrooms.

Very good light. looks good in my new kitchen
28 / 03 / 2013

5/5

These fit exactly the same as the halogen bulbs we have in our downlighting which has been in place for 7 years, warm white provides the same colour of light if a little brighter. Pricey yes, but if you can afford to buy a few at a time then the savings soon start to add up, we will definitely be back for more, over 50 will be needed!
27 / 03 / 2013

5/5

Bought to replace 50W halogens in a kitchen. Very pleased with the brightness and angle width of beam. Have also put into floor uplighters as well, a good safety upgrade as they do not get as hot as the old halogens. Light does give some clear plastics / glasses a slight greenish tinge due to polarisation effects and is very white compared to the warmer halogen light but this is personal preference. Would recommend these to replace existing 50/60W halogen bulbs.
27 / 03 / 2013

5/5

Product used in kitchen downlighters. Cool white provides high levels of light, and enhances white units.
26 / 03 / 2013

Used in ceilings, the reduced heat given off gives me a better sense of security after seeing what the old 50 Watt halogens have done to their fittings.

I have installed these bulbs in kitchen spotlight array, replacing 50W GU10 halogen bulbs. The brightness is comparable with the halogens that they are replacing, but light quality and spread is somewhat different, which is taking a little time to adapt to. In particular the brightest part of the beam is wider than for the halogen bulbs, so the general lighting is more even but the off-axis light colour is distinctly yellow (possibly due to the warm white option?). Some tweaking is ongoing to find the best balance of coverage.

15 / 02 / 2013

5/5

exellent product at a reasonable price
13 / 02 / 2013

5/5

Needed brighter lights for living areas. The warm white are not the usual stark white light normally found with bright LED bulbs. The best I've found so far for changing from halogen bulbs. Still not an identical colour output, but a good alternative.
13 / 02 / 2013

3/5

Quality is satisfactory
12 / 02 / 2013

5/5

Very bright light 4 watt would have been fine and muchmore spread intensity than 50 watt warm white. As they indicate cool white is very bright with slight blue . Go for warm white if you just want a little crisper than halogen. If you want modern and very bright cool is for you!
11 / 02 / 2013

5/5

I have used at home in the Kitchen.
11 / 02 / 2013

4/5

we haven't used the bulbs yet - we have still to instal the fitting in which they will be used, ie the kitchen. We feel, however, that they will be ideal.
10 / 02 / 2013

5/5

I have found the new bulbs excellent as I had a large number of standard G10 bulbs inside and outside my Orangery. They will certainly make a large reduction in my electricity consumption and the heat generated by so many bulbs. I also like the wider angle of beam coverage over the old bulbs which gives better coverage within the Orangery and with the outside bulbs on the pathways.
08 / 02 / 2013

4/5

Used in kitchen for general lighting. nice spread of light, not too narrow a beam. slightly more yellow than I was expecting but getting used to them. Will recommend to family and friends and may also buy for work.

What I wanted at the right price
07 / 02 / 2013

5/5

really good. I currently have a 6 lamp fitment in my kitchen that has always been necessary to give the light to all areas but I think that a 4 lamp fitment would be sufficient with these lamps.
