Increasingly, LEDs are being used for torches; this is due to a number of advantages the technology offers over more traditional light sources. Here are just a few of the reasons why one can provide a more reliable form of torchlight.
- Durability and efficiency they can last up to 50 times longer than regular torches, clearly a major advantage in many situations, and burn hundreds of hours per single set of batteries. As LEDs are solid state components, they do not get damaged by external shock in the same way that traditional light sources do, and are less likely to fail or break when dropped or jolted.
- More consistent brightness - many LED torchlights electronically regulate the voltage supplied to the LEDs, stabilising light output. LEDs also have the advantage of maintaining a specific colour temperature regardless of the input voltage or current, while the colour temperature of an incandescent bulb declines with the power available, meaning that your torch will dim towards the end of its lifespan.
